GDC: Super Mario Galaxy = Very Yes.

I'm so excited.

If you haven't heard by now, Nintendo released a new Super Mario Galaxy trailer at Shigeru Miyamoto's keynote.

I remembered why I'm so excited for this one.

The video can be seen here.

This game is looking to be the perfect blend of 2D and 3D Mario, along with new element of interactivity and fun with the Wii Remote.

I think this is it, fellas. I'm really feeling that this will be the game that is the spiritual successor to Super Mario 64.

But the best part of the trailer for me?

At 1:18, there's a coin wall.

If any of you remember, there weren't that many coins in the other 3D Mario titles. In fact, there were so few that, in Super Mario 64, collecting 50 granted the player and extra life, and 100 granted the player a Power Star.

This is why I am both impressed and amazed that a wall of coins like in the original Super Mario Bros. has appeared in Super Mario Galaxy.

It's nice to see old, loved elements returning. I'm loving Nintendo EAD Tokyo more and more by the second.
